Thomas E. Jurgens, 26 year old Senior Court Officer at Manhattan Supreme Court, died heroically on September 11, 2001. Tommy was also a Captain of Engine 332 of the Meadowmere Park Volunteer Fire Department and was honorably discharged from the United States Army, Army Reserves and the National Guard, where he was a combat medic.
Tommy is survived by his proud and loving family which includes his wife, Joan; father, Joseph; stepmom, Barbara; mother, Linda; stepfather, Alan; two brothers, Joseph and Bradley; a sister, Jessica; grandmother, Margaret Dracker; grandfather, Robert Blakeman; mother and father-in-law, Joan and Andy Schmitt; goddaughter, Kayla Schmitt; as well as many relatives and friends.
Tommy will be deeply missed and will always be remembered for his loyalty, generosity, sincerity, sense of humor, and most of all his heroism and great love.
A memorial wake will be held at Whitting Funeral Home, 300 Glen Cove Ave., Glen Head, NY on Thursday, November 15 from 2-5 and 7-9p.m. There will be a Fire Department service held at 8p.m. at the funeral home. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Raymond's Roman Catholic Church, 263 Atlantic Ave., East Rockaway, NY on Friday, November 16, 2001 at 12 noon.
