Calvin C. Smith, 61, of Amarillo died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Paramount Terrace Christian Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Mr. Smith was born in Amarillo and graduated from Tascosa High School. He won the Panhandle Science Fair in 1959 and was awarded a trip to New York. He married Barcine Lester on Aug. 3, 1963.

Mr. Smith worked for Sandia Labs from 1964 to 1974 in nuclear research, where he was instrumental in receiving a patent for the failsafe locking device for the Titan missile. He moved back to Amarillo to open Omega Electronics. This year would be the 30th year in business.

Mr. Smith had been a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church since its conception.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Eric Smith and wife, Rita, of Carrollton; a daughter, Cherie Barnes and husband, Terry, of Austin; his father, Emmett Smith of Amarillo; and two grandchildren, Timothy and Matthew.
