Berry Loranzy Barnes, age 71, passed away Sunday, November 2, 2002 in League City, Texas after an extended illness. He is survived by his son, Brandon Barnes and wife, Elizabeth; daughter, Jolie Barnes; long time companion, Issa Seelig.
Mr. Barnes was born to Berry Loranzy Barnes Sr. and mother Sally Smith, who passed away due to childbirth complications. Mr. Barnes was raised by father and stepmother Bessie Taylor Barnes in the Denver Harbor area of Houston. After graduation from high school, Mr. Barnes joined the Air Force and served his country in the medical corps in Korea and Japan, and again during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts and later a Master's degree from East Texas State University. He was a sociology professor at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas and also at San Jacinto College in Pasadena, Texas. In his retirement, he enjoyed reading and spending time traveling to various sites in Texas and the United States visiting family members and friends.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 7, 2002 at Rosewood Memorial Park in Humble, Texas.
